Nokia C9 Windows Phone Concept Emerges

 With Nokia and Microosft already making their partnership official, the entire world is waiting to see what astonishing devices would the Finnish handset vendor bring to the market with the Windows Phone operating system on board.

The company already presented some Windows Phone concepts, but nothing was made official on any handset that would hit shelves in the near future.

However, enthusiast are eagerly waiting for something to be unveiled, and some of them started to come up with their own ideas on what a Nokia device running under Windows Phone might be all about.


Nokia C9, a concept device coming from Shihuzaan (via My Nokia Blog) is one of the handsets that people are dreaming of when thinking about the Nokia – Windows Phone pair.

The handset resembles with some of the latest high-end devices on shelves, such as the iPhone, or the Samsung Galaxy S II, but it still has its own features to share with us.

Based on Windows Phone, the Nokia C9 concept device would bring the Ovi Store to the Metro UI, as well as some of the already popular services and applications that Nokia users can enjoy: Ovi Maps, Facebook, Opera Mobile 11, Twitter and more.

Of course, the device would also inherit some of the services and applications behind Windows Phone, including Xbox LIVE, Office Mobile, and the like.

This concept phone, the same as other Nokia concepts we've seen lately, runs under the next version of Windows Phone, the one that includes Nokia's own touches.


As for the hardware specs, they would impress too, starting with the large 4″ AMOLED touchscreen display, and moving to the Quad-core Cortex A9-based application processor with SGX543MP GPU.

On the back, the Nokia C9 would sport an 8-megapixel photo snapper with Carl Zeiss optics, complemented by a 2MP front-facing camera.

Have a look at the photos available with this concept device to make an idea of what Nokia might have in store for its users with its Windows Phone handsets, but do not dare to hope too much that it might become reality.


 

Users Who Think XP Is Good Enough Need to See Infection Rates Compared to Windows 7

In excess of 350 million licenses of Windows 7 were sold in the 18 months passed since the platform hit GA, the first 300 million of which by the end of January 2011, but despite being the second most used OS on the market, Windows Vista’s successor is doing a far superior job at protecting users compared to Windows XP.
According to operating system usage statistics from Net Applications there are largely two XP users for each customer running Windows 7. 


Yet, according to the recently launched Security Intelligence Report volume 10 from Microsoft, the infection rates for Windows 7 are dwarfed by those of the decade old operating system launched in 2001.

“Infection rates for more recently released operating systems and service packs are consistently lower than earlier ones, for both client and server platforms. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the most recently released Windows client and server versions, respectively, have the lowest infection rates,” the software giant stated.

Previous releases of SIR provided the same conclusions, but smaller market share could have been seen as contributing to lower Windows 7 infection rates.

But fact is that the uptake explosion for Windows 7 was not correlated with a similar increase in the volume of compromised computers.

The infection rate that Microsoft associates to Windows 7 in SIRv10 has been somewhat constant and remained under 4.0 since the end of 2009.


According to SIRv10, Windows 7 has an average quarterly infection rate of 2.5 for the 64-bit version and 3.8 for the 32-bit flavor, Vista SP2 is at 5.3 for x64 and 7.5 for x86 while XP is at 15.9 for x64 and 19.3 for x86.

“Infection rates for the 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 are lower than for the corresponding 32-bit versions of those operating systems. One reason may be that 64-bit versions of Windows still appeal to a more technically savvy audience than their 32-bit counterparts, despite increasing sales of 64-bit Windows versions among the general computing population,” the Redmond company said.

“Kernel Patch Protection (KPP), a feature of 64-bit versions of Windows that protects the kernel from unauthorized modification, may also contribute to the discrepancy by preventing certain types of malware from operating.”
 

Pre-Unlocked and Pre-Activated Windows 8 Leak Available for Download

The genuine Windows 8 testing releases provided to legitimate testers come accompanied with product keys designed to activate the operating system.
Even though leaked copies of Windows vNext managed to make their way into the wild, the same is not valid for the product keys offered by Microsoft to members of its select pool of testers. 






While some testers reveal that Windows 7 Beta and Release Candidate (RC) product keys can also be used to activate leaked Builds of Windows 8, hackers have already put together various tools designed to let users circumvent the platform’s activation mechanism.

The hacks also come with some extra functionality as they serve not only to activate Windows 8, but even to help it bypass genuine checks while even bringing to the surface the locked features packed in the platform.

Following a series of leaks, per the “you CAN teach an old dog new tricks” model, a new Windows 8 leak available in the wild comes already pre-activated and pre-unlocked.

The new download offers the second Windows 8 Milestone 2 (M2) pre-M3 Build 6.2.7955.0 leak, the one with the original Windows 8 installer.

It appears that this particular download of Windows 8 has already been activated with the next generation Windows features also unlocked.

Essentially, it’s authors have literally done all the heavy lifting themselves, with nothing left for testers that want to jump the gun and start testing the release than just download and install it.

My advice is that users always try to steer clear from downloads that come from untrusted sources.

This is especially true in scenarios that involve leaked software that has been tampered with to some extent.

Those that followed the development of Windows 7 as well as the leaks happening ahead of public availability know that some of the illegal releases also packed malicious code.

Fact is that there’s no telling what additional surprises leaked copies of Windows 8 pack on top of the unlocked goodies hidden by Microsoft.

GALAXY Tab 10.1 on June 8, Google I/O Attendees Receive it Now

On Tuesday, Google kicked off the 4th edition of its annual Google I/O developer conference, with a special treat up its sleeve for those who attended, namely free GALAXY Tab 10.1 devices.

A number of not less than 5,500 tablet PCs were prepared for developers attending the Google I/O (Innovation in the Open) conference at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, USA, the official announcement



This would be a special, limited edition of the device, a GALAXY Tab 10.1 model engraved with the Android emblem, running under the latest flavor of the Android platform, Honeycomb.

“Samsung has proven its leadership in the Android tablet market with its range of GALAXY Tab devices featuring cutting-edge technology and powerful performance,” Wonpyo Hong, Executive Vice President of Product Strategy at Samsung Electronics, commented.

"We look to the developer community to create compelling and desirable applications that will demonstrate the advanced capabilities of the GALAXY Tab 10.1 and we hope that the gift of these devices will help that.”

For those out of the loop, we should note that the tablet PC was unveiled in February during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, with a large 10.1-inch display, being the second tablet PC Samsung introduced to the world.

However, the device soon became GALAXY Tab 10.1v, and got a second version in late March, the actual GALAXY Tab 10.1, with a slimmer body than before.

While GALAXY Tab 10.1v already arrived on shelves via Vodafone, the carrier that Samsung partnered with for the launch, the thinner version of the tablet PC is expected to hit the market only starting with June 8th, Samsung announced.

“The GALAXY Tab 10.1 is the latest product in Samsung’s expanding portfolio of tablet devices,” Samsung explains.

“Featuring a 10.1 inch screen, Dual Core processor and measuring just 8.6 mm, the GALAXY Tab 10.1 combines outstanding multimedia capabilities with the portability and performance you would expect of a Samsung tablet.”

The Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 arrives on shelves in two flavors, 16GB and 32GB, with price tags of $499 and $599, respectively.

 

Nokia X10 Symbian Concept Phone Packs Quad-Core CPU

Hot on the heels of the emergence of few pieces of info regarding the next Symbian release, supposedly called Belle, we can also have a look at the first Nokia concept phone that would be based on it.

Called Nokia X10, the device should pack a 2 GHz Quad-Core Processor, complemented by 2 GB RAM and a powerful GPU, making it one of the most appealing concept phone we've had the chance to see in a while.

The Nokia X10 concept comes from Nando Sang Putra, via My Nokia Blog, and might easily turn into a mobile phone capable of bringing down popular handsets like the Windows Phone-based HD7, or the Android-powered Galaxy S II, or the HTC Sensation.

 
If only Nokia came up with a similar idea a few years ago! Symbian would have certainly managed to remain at the top of the mobile market, especially if backed by powerful, appealing handsets at lower price tags.

However, the Nokia X10 would be a high-end phone, which means that its price would be leveraged as well. And with a 4.5-inch touchscreen – Dragontrail Glass Display – capable of delivering a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, the handset would certainly worth every penny.

But there's more to it. The concept phone would come with support for 4G LTE networks, as well as with Quad-band connectivity, TV-out (1080p video) via HDMI with Dolby Digital Plus sound, or USB port.


On the back, the handset should sport a 15 MP photo snapper, with Carl Zeiss optics, auto focus, Dual Xenon flash and full HD 1080p@30fps video recording capabilities. It would be complemented by a front-facing 5 MP camera with EDoF, face detection and flash to enable video calling at night as well.



The Nokia X10 would also sport Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Thermo sensor, Magnetometer sensor, and 3-axis Gyro sensor, as well as a Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery to provide users with extended usage time.

For enthusiasts, this would be the Nokia phone they have always dreamed of. Undoubtedly, with the latest advancements in the mobile industry, it would not be too long before handsets that would sport similar specs arrive on shelves, though it remains to be seen whether Nokia would actually release such a Symbian phone.

Next Windows Phone to Be Unveiled on May 24th

Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has announced plans to bring the next flavor of Windows Phone into the spotlight on May 24th, 2011.

The unveiling will take place during a press event set to take place on that day in New York City, at least this is what the invitations Microsoft sent out read.

“On May 24th we lift the curtain on the next major release of Windows Phone and we would like you to be the first to see it,” the invitation reads.

No specific info on what the new mobile platform iteration would actually include was made available, but some of the latest rumors on the matter suggest that we're to see many appealing new features included into the mix.

Last month, during its MIX11 conference, Microsoft announced that the next flavor of Windows Phone is expected to bring new features into the mix, and even detailed some of them.

Some of these would include the new Internet Explorer 9 for mobile, along with Twitter integrated into People's Hub, multitasking, or a series of new applications, including Angry Birds, Skype, or Spotify.

Some of the latest rumors on the matter suggest that Microsoft might also enhance the Bing experience Windows Phone users would receive, with the addition of features like Bing Audio for music identification, or Bing Vision for bar code scanning.

Some of the other features that might be included into the mix, would be turn-by-turn navigation with Bing Maps, Native Podcast support, and even voice-recognition SMS messaging, Windows Live Messenger integration, and enhanced support for East Asian languages.

For the time being, however, these are only rumored new features for the mobile operating system, as Microsoft has yet to confirm that they would be included in the new Mango update, set to arrive sometime in fall.

Hopefully, May 24th would be the day when more details on this should become available, so stay tuned to learn additional info.

Blackberry Playbook To Have Video Chat App Soon

RIM announced that the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is likely to have the Video Chat app by next month.

The front 5MP camera would be utilized once the PlayBook Video Chat app is available. Tom Goguen, Research In Motion (RIM) Collaboration and Social Networking’s VP said, "With the BlackBerry PlayBook Video Chat application we are excited to be enabling our customers to share important moments and events with family and friends via video calls. With the BlackBerry PlayBook's high-resolution video cameras and stunning display, a Video Chat call is the next best thing to being there."

Another exciting feature to be included is the picture-in-picture view which will enable a user to see what the other person is seeing. This app will function through Wi-Fi connection.

The only possible negative aspect about it is that this app can be used only with another PlayBook tablet. However, it might prove useful for the organizations which require co-workers to communicate with each other via Video Chat facility.

It would have been more useful if RIM would have facilitated the PlayBook users to have a video chat with other Apple devices just like Apple’s FaceTime which can also be used by RIM for video chat. But, unfortunately the PlayBook wouldn’t be able to connect a video chat with other Macs, iPhones and iPad 2s.

Samsung Releases Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 and 5.0

Samsung announced the launch of Galaxy S WiFI 4.0 and 5.0 which are two of its latest Portable Media Players (PMPs) which run on Android.

Apart from not having the cellular radio, it is just like any other Android device. The notable features of these Portable Media Players Galaxy S WiFI 4.0 and 5.0 are its 4-inch and 5-inch capacitive touchscreens respectively. It works on 1GHz Processors and runs Google Android 2.2 FroYo which can be upgraded to 2.3 Gingerbread.

Users will be able to use the Android Market and it comes with Samsung Social Hub Integration. The PMPs also support DivX, DivX HD, H264 and WMV. It has a storage capacity of 16GB and 32GB which can further be expanded using microSD cards. Other than that, it also comes with Video Calls and VoIP Voice facilities.

This new Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 and 5.0 is expected to be shipped soon. However, it is not yet confirmed that when will this product reach the Indian markets.

Nokia N8 Pink Limited Edition To Be Launched Soon

Nokia is planning to come out with a limited edition of Nokia N8 update in a pretty pink colour which will work on the Symbian Anna operating system. This will be a limited edition launch keeping in mind the occasion of Mother’s Day. This pink smartphone is not only good to look at but it has been provided with a new OS as well. As per sources from Nokia India, the shipment of this N8 limited edition phone was delayed and so, it might hit Indian markets by the start of next month or may be by this month end. With this new Anna operating system, the N8 is expected to deliver better performance as well as visual effects as compared to the Symbian ^3 Operating System. While bringing out the Pink edition of N8, Nokia have targeted the women customers as the colour of the phone indicates. Even a Pink Diva theme has now being added to the phone and also, a Pink Neon Clock replaces the original one. Another added attraction for all the women is that the Nokia N8 Pink will also come loaded with an ELLE fashion app which provides all the celebrity as well as fashion news to the users.

Nokia T7-00 Smartphone Details Leaked

It’s been rumored from some time now about Nokia’s upcoming T7-00 smartphone. Now, there are some leaked photos of the smartphone that gives more details about this high-end device. The first thing that you would notice by looking at the model is that, Nokia T7-00 looks almost similar to the Nokia N8 model. The grey shade and a lengthy touchscreen add more grace to the device. The other important aspects of the Nokia T7-00 model include an impressive 8 mega pixels camera, which ensures you quality pictures. Yet, the N8 model had 12 mega pixels camera. Further, the phone is enabled to support 3D graphics. The Symbian^3 mobile OS packed, Nokia T7-00, will have 360 x 640 pixel resolution display. Nokia Plans Launching 40 New Mobile Phones In 2011

Once a dominant player in world market, Nokia, is now undergoing a tough phase in this fiercely competitive market. So is the reason the Finnish company has come out with aggressive plans for this year. Nokia, reportedly, is aiming to introduce 40 new mobile phones in 2011. Among these 12 would be of smartphone category, sources said.

Though the company is feeling the heat of rising Android market, the sales of Nokia’s entry-end mobile are also badly affected. Yet, it is not clear which segments the company would be targeting.

The smartphone segment is another area where Nokia is losing its foot hold because of intense competition from Apple, BlackBerry, Samsung and HTC. The market for entry-level mobile phones, on the other hand, is filled with several low-cost handset makers from China, Taiwan and India.

Nokia’s new range of phones could target all the key segments in the industry so as to gain back its lost position. Meanwhile, price is also one aspect that Nokia might consider while launching its new range of phones.

Nokia Windows Phone 7 To Be Released In 2012?

It seems that we have to wait for about a year for the Nokia Windows Phone 7 devices as Nokia has announced that the Nokia Windows Phone 7 handsets’ release is likely to be delayed till 2012.

Nokia India MD D Shivakuma has reportedly said that it is not satisfied with the current form of Microsoft mobile OS. So, it is speculated that Nokia might avoid Windows Phone 7 and go for its next version which is codenamed “Mango”.

However, a wait of one year is not that bad because it would support IE9, HTML5 and multitasking when released.

There are also rumours which suggest that Windows Phone 8 which is called Apollo is also likely to be released towards the end of 2012.

Nokia E6 Mobile To Come With QWERTY Keypad & Touchscreen?

Just like Nokia E7, E72 and E5 mobiles, which all got briliant welcome from people, they are likely to come up with E6 which has a QWERTY keypad, Touchscreen. This Symbian^3 OS running mobile will be looking almost like E63, E71 and E5 towards the lower part.

According to sources, it will have dedicated keys for Home, Contacts, Messages and Calendar facilities and this mobile will have the camera in the front panel. It is done so to make video calling possible.

This Nokia E6 if launched, is likely to be an apt rival to the upcoming BlackBerry Bold Touch (Montana) phone.

Like Nokia’s E5 is available for Rs. 10,599, E72 for Rs. 18,499 and E7 which might be priced at Rs. 35,019, this E6 is likely to cost more than E72 but lesser then E7.

Nokia E7 Pre-Order Price To Start At Rs. 35,000 For India

The much-awaited Nokia E7 is soon going to hit Indian markets. The company has started accepting pre-orders for the model at Rs. 35,000.

According to sources, the device would be available for pre-orders at Nokia priority stores across India.

Nokia E7 is a high-end smartphone that runs on Nokia’s Symbian^3 and is equipped with QWERTY keypad. With four inches touchscreen, the phone offers brilliant display and has camera resolution of 3266 x 2450 pixels. E7 hosts better Internet and social networking features with GPRS/EDGE, 3G Bluetooth 3.0, Facebook and Twitter equipped in the device.

There is an 8 mega pixels dual LED flash camera that offers 720p videoplayback HDMI. The phone comes with 16 GB memory card slot. The phone is enabled with High-Speed connectivity features like USB 2.0, USB and micro USB connector.
